Ampara: Details of the disaster Government figures 3 months after the disaster: 3,643 families affected 16,484 individuals affected but not displace (i.e. lost) 21,350 individuals affected and displaced in refugee camps 740 recorded dead and found 477 reported dead lost/never found - 172 males, 199 females, 106 children 124 missing persons not recovered or identified/not accounted for 98 seriously injured 2,985 houses destroyed 934 major damage to houses 4,324 damaged doors, windows, furniture damage, trees/cars/waste imbedded in houses 9 schools seriously damaged 8 government buildings and 13 temples damaged The government recorded highest dead in Ampara, highest people dead recorded in Thirukovil and 1,341 dead mostly within 6km of the coast. |
