Restoring the Pearl of the Orient

Sri Lanka was once called the Pearl of the Orient. Our objective at SHORE is to help this beautiful island recover from the disastrous effects of the Tsunami so that it can once again carry that description with pride and joy.

Transportation

Durable transport is vital and a new mini bus is required to transport children to and from camps to school about 5 miles each way, as this is where they still live over a year on. A grief stricken man who lost his home and all of his family asked to be volunteered to help in anyway rather than sit around grieving. To provide him with some focus in life we helped him and his friend to refurbish an old minibus that was battered in the tsunami. It is the only transport available at present but frequently breaks down and needs regular maintenance; yet it is the only means for these children to get any education.

Requirement:

Therefore, a new mini bus is needed for the safety of the children.

Mini Bus 12/18 seat £26,000.00

Requirement:

Another mini bus is required to ferry from the community to the counselling centre so they can benefit from a private and confidential service.

Mini bus 8/10 seat £20,000.00

You can reach Thirukkovil by the coast road - which has its hazards and excitements! Big holes and uneven surfaces mark a road people depend upon to get about.

the same essential stretch of road is frequently covered with water during the monsoon

Alternatively you can go over or around the mountains - which provides hazards of a completely different kind!
