What we are trying to do

At the initial public meeting held at the St Albans Council offices in
February 2005, we already knew about the huge worldwide
response, and the enormous emergency relief effort. Indeed
the major aid agencies were saying that they had all the
funds they needed. We realised that we could make a real
difference by:
  1. Providing for the longer-term needs of people and
communities whose lives had been so dramatically
    affected.
  2. Focussing support on one area within one affected
country, where we know that interaction and local
support has not adequately met the existing needs.
  3. Building links between St Albans and another community
that will last for a number of years, and go on providing
support long after the world’s press and television cameras
had moved on to somewhere else.
